It is widely recognised, by the medical profession, that mind and body are inextricably linked, therefore any mental stress or anxiety can lead to both physical and emotional symptoms (dis-ease).
During hypnosis the client is in contact with his/her subconscious – the seat of all memories and emotions. Most other forms of therapy are carried out at a conscious level but the will of the conscious mind is small against that of a learned response from the past. These responses and emotional reactions are like computer programmes which keep running and running, causing the same unpleasant effects, until they are dealt with.
Problems can occur when a behavioural pattern / programme is made in response to a situation that occurred in the past. Later in life, as the situation changes, the behavioural response sometimes does not. Hypnotherapy can change these unhelpful responses on a deep subconscious level so the scope for positive change is endless.
The subconscious, situated in the hypothalamus, also controls the autonomic nervous system, regulating such things as blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, release of hormones etc. Therefore, with access to the subconscious, we can begin to address the more physical imbalances that cause us problems.
Hypnotherapy, and particularly self-hypnosis, can not only help us to deal effectively with the pressures and stress of modern day living but also improve our physical health and wellbeing.
Most conditions can be dealt with in around 5 sessions but the work you will do with me in the sessions will continue to create positive change long after the sessions have ended.
Appointments are usually made weekly and each session will last about 45 to 60 mins.
You will have a series of CDs to listen to between sessions which will reinforce what we do in each session and prepare you for the next. You will have 2 CDs to keep at the end of the course of treatment.
As well as addressing the underlying issues you will be taught simple yet powerful techniques to help you feel safe and in control both now and in the future. At the end of the course I will also teach you Self Hypnosis so that you can continue to do work for yourself if you wish.
It is essential to feel at ease with your therapist so I am happy to arrange an initial consultation. During the consultation we can discuss what you hope to achieve and I will explain hypnotherapy and answer any questions. This will give you the opportunity to decide if you feel comfortable with me and confident that I can help you to achieve your goals. I always leave time to have a first session after the consultation but there is no pressure to decide on the spot.
What is Hypnosis? – It is a state of relaxation in which the client is very aware of what is going on and is always in complete control at all times.
Can anyone be hypnotised? – Yes. If they want to be.
Can I be forced to do things against my will? – Emphatically NO! The client is always in control.
Are drugs ever used? – No. Never.
Will I be asleep? – No. You will be aware of what is going on all the time and just feel very relaxed.
